Escape from Mogadishu is based on a true story of the North and South Korean embassy officials isolated in SomaliaŌĆÖs civil war in the 1990s, escaping the war zone. Kim Yoon Seok, Jo In Sung, and Heo Joon Ho joined the film. ItŌĆÖs a highly anticipated project since itŌĆÖs a collaboration between Ryu Seung WanŌĆÖs company Filmmaker R&K and director Kim Yong HwaŌĆÖs Dexter Studio. The movie was supposed to be released last summer, but the release was postponed due to COVID-19. The officials have been trying to figure out the best time to release the movie. Since Escape from Mogadishu was entirely filmed in Morocco with a budget of around 20 billion won, it wasnŌĆÖt an easy decision to release the film during the pandemic. Movies like Peninsula, Deliver Us From Evil, Steel Rain 2: Summit, and Okay! Madam were released last summer. But none of the Korean tent poles have set release date this summer because, paradoxically, none of those released last summer had attracted more than 5 million moviegoers. Escape from Mogadishu is expected to hit theaters at the end of July. But, it may see some changes due to the distribution process. Many wonders if Ryu Seung WanŌĆÖs Escape from Mogadishu will repair the ego of the Korean movie industry this summer. ┬Ā Source (1) Translator Na Young Gil: ZAPZEE is the best Korean pop culture community, and IŌĆÖm happy to be part of it.
